4/19/13

I think my presentation went swell. My presentation was the bomb diggety. I had a brochure and my judges absolutely loved that they could take it with them. I had my slideshow/powerpoint to go along with my speech and my judges loved that. I helped my judge realize someone they knew had an eating disorder. I also had a fantastic tri-fold board that was professionally put together.

I did not really experience any problems on the day of presentation but during my setting things up it was stressful not knowing exactly when I would be judged or if I was wednesday or thursday until last minute.

I think capstone could be improved by the project being accepted faster, and it being more organized as it gets closer to presentation time. Also a little bit more time to practice the speech, but not to the point where you sound like a robot.

This is my website so far.



My end product is going to be a lecture/day long curriculum that will educate teenagers on what eating disorders are with a worksheet of questions to answer after. Also a short activity that will label what can be damaged depending on what eating disorder someone has.

These are my four slides to alternate on the banner at the top of my website. The font is the same one that I am using on my website. They also stick with the websites color theme. I believe the message is fairly clear. They are about eating disorders. The statistics of the teenagers likely to have one, and motivational messages. Hopefully I am not the only one who likes these.

Eating disorders kill people. Anorexia almost killed me. The worst part is that no one knew what I was suffering through, I was not alone. Eating disorders onset between the ages of 12-18, and affect about 5% of girls, and roughly 2% of boys. People did not understand my pain, my reasons, or my need for control. I want to make people more aware of the danger of eating disorders, before another young girl’s life ends. If you have an eating disorder I want you to know that it can kill you. If you manage to make it through your disorder, the fight does not stop.

2/20 :)

This is what I have so far for my website. Enjoy the screen shot. We opened DreamWeaver and started to work on our websites this week. I really like these softer colors because the others were so harsh it would have been hard to have someone be open to learn about these things.
We made the banner for the top. We specialized colors.

I had maybe 5 minutes to work on this because there was lecture up until this point. I will work on it more later.

2/13 and 2/15

We learned about color palettes and played a game to see how much we understood about websites on Wednesday. On Friday we looked at many different websites by well known and rich companies to see different kinds of distractions and how to draw someone in. We then started making a color palette that should coincide with our rough draft posters to tie it all in together. I have my website color palette the exact opposite of my poster, but I think it looks really cool that way. It pulls out all the colors that draw one's attention immediately, and makes those the most noticeable in my color palette.

Layout and Design: A deep background, and a bright color for title text, and a medium color for the uh main body text stuff.

Today in class I worked more on my capstone poster, I like the changes you made, they were very helpful. I am just having some trouble getting images that are large enough for me to manipulate the way I want to.This is what I have come up with and I hope you really like it.

Monday we looked at posters that we had made last week, and started finding information for our capstone project poster. Today (Wednesday) we started to and continued to work on our capstone poster. I will have jarring images that are not nice to look at, but that show the truth behind the disease.

Feb 1st

I made the background black because the images I had were all very light in colors. I chose the images I did because I needed chemicals and women's products to show that they all contained some of the same chemicals. What I failed to put was that there are way too many chemicals in each product on its own. I have a title of "stop and think" and I forgot a subtitle. I'm sorry :/ I picked the fonts because It is nice to the eye but the words are harsh.

Jan 30th

Today in class we looked at a poster you made on p90x. You showed us different components of it. Today we started creating a practice poster that we will continue working on, on friday as well. We brainstormed ideas like deformed frogs, toxic symbols, birth control, atrazine, molecular shapes, plastic, and baby bottles. Colors like red, black and yellow with a grunge effect.

1/28

Today in class we discussed hormone disruptors. We are going to create posters that advocate/persuade people to attempt avoiding the chemicals that are causing harmful effects. I kind of feel like a hippie right now, about how the government can't do anything right - because they can't- and how it's up to the consumer to make a difference or freak out about anything harmful. Life is full of harmful things, its a fact, but I agree that chemical should be nowhere near food and water.

Today in class we discussed the different ways that P90X marketed, advertised, and sold their product. It was based off of what we found on the website and broken up into four different categories. My group looked at the 'science' behind it...there is none. But that helped to give a sort of an idea of how a website could look for the capstone projects.

My Capstone Project

For my capstone project I am creating a day long curriculum to educate and raise awareness to the severity of eating disorders. This includes what may trigger it, signs of someone suffering from it, and different ways to get treatment. There is a separate paper for the professor/teacher to read that details signs of a student having an eating disorder and things to possibly not say as to not offend someone or make it worse.

TOP 3 PROBLEMS WITH CAPSTONE

1. The course did not focus on the project until the second half of the semester and then we were rushed to make decisions.

2. Capstone takes up valuable time that is needed to focus on other things of higher importance.

3. If I am to fail capstone, I will fail the capstone class, and will then graduate undistinguished, even though all of my other course work gears me to graduate with a distinguished diploma.
